FAQ
-
I just retired from my practice; is locum tenens a fit for
me?
Many providers who step back from the rigors of a busy day-to-day
practice still enjoy practicing medicine on a limited basis.
Locum Tenens allows you to control your schedule and choose
the times and places to practice. It allows you the freedom
to do what you enjoy – practice medicine – without
the office headaches.
-
How am I compensated?
Locum tenens providers are independent contractors, and
competitive compensation is typically based on hourly shifts
or daily terms. Providers are paid bi-weekly; medical liability,
travel and lodging expenses are covered as needed.
- Am
I responsible for providing my own malpractice insurance?
MDA has secured an Occurrence Form Malpractice Policy with
A+ rated Medical Protective. The Occurrence
Form insurance provides comprehensive coverage that
does not require purchasing "tail" coverage. When you contract
with Medical Doctor Associates you can practice medicine
without concerns about your protection; you are covered
today and in the future. It is that simple!
-
What makes MDA different from the other locum tenens agencies?
Our employee-owners make the big difference. All employees
have an ownership stake, and are committed to developing
long lasting relationships with the providers who work with
us.
A top-rated Occurrence Form Malpractice policy through The
Medical Protective is another very important difference.
MDA is the only national multi-specialty locum tenens organization
that offers this level of protection. Medical Protective
Insurance Company is rated A+ by A.M. Best and AAA by Standard
& Poor. This level of protection removes the risk for
you so you can have peace of mind.
- Does
MDA provide health insurance for locum tenens providers?
Because providers work with MDA as independent contractor,
MDA cannot legally provide benefits, including health insurance.
-
What is the average length of a locum tenens assignment?
Assignments can be a single shift to several months based
on the needs of the facility and the length of time the
provider wants to work. Please talk to one of our staffing
consultants to discuss your specific interest.
-
Who pays for the travel and housing expenses?
The client needing locum tenens coverage pays for the travel
and housing expenses, except in situations where the locum
tenens provider lives locally. Your staffing consultant
arranges your travel and housing through MDA’s in-house
travel agency.
