While many locum tenens firms offer only claims-made coverage, Medical Doctor Associates is the largest national multi-specialty medical staffing firm to offer occurrence form medical liability coverage. We are also the only company to have offered occurrence form coverage throughout our entire company’s history – a claim which no other locum tenens firm can make.

In response to an industry-wide shift in coverage options in 2001, MDA partnered with The Medical Protective Company to continue our commitment to offering the most comprehensive coverage for our contracted medical professionals.

Occurrence form is the best and most comprehensive form of medical liability insurance because it covers claims arising from an incident that occurs during the active period of the policy, regardless of when the claim is filed. On the other hand, claims-made insurance only covers the physician if incidents occur and claims are reported during the active period of the policy. Since the time period for coverage under an occurrence form policy is unlimited, there is no need to buy a tail policy.

We understand the litigious nature of healthcare today. Our A++ rated occurrence form policy offers complete peace of mind that you are covered indefinitely for any incidents which may occur while you are on assignment. This is extremely important for long tail exposures such as medical malpractice. Claims-made policies offer coverage only for the duration of the policy, which is risky in the locum tenens setting because you are not in control of the decision whether to maintain the policy or purchase a tail. If covered under a claims-made policy, you are at risk if the company goes out of business. Providers who contract with MDA have the security of knowing they will never be left without tail coverage.
