Locum tenens process

Working locum tenens with Medical Doctor Associates allows you to choose the opportunities you want to work. It also offers flexibility to achieve balance between a rewarding career and personal lifestyle.

It’s easy to get started with MDA. Call 1-800-780-3500 and ask to speak with a consultant who represents your practice specialty in your preferred geographic location. Or, if you don’t have a location preference, just ask to speak to a consultant in your specialty.

You will work with one staffing consultant experienced in your specialty who will guide you throughout each assignment from start to finish. We are committed to your satisfactions and strive to make every placement opportunity a superior experience.

Step 1: Initial Consultation
  • Your staffing consultant will want to get to know you:
    • Your goals and interests
    • Your experience and work history
    • Your availability for upcoming opportunities
  • He/she will also:
    • Explain our process
    • Review the self employment agreement
    • Address any additional questions you may have or other terms
Step 2: Application
  • Complete the Independent Contractor Application and forward it to your consultant
  • Your consultant will then submit it to CREDENT, MDA’s credentials verification organization
Step 3: Credential Review Step 4: Review Opportunities
  • Upon approval for assignment, your staffing consultant will present opportunities which closely match your interests, goals, specialty and availability
Step 5: Placement Negotiations
  • With your permission, your staffing consultant presents your credentials to the practice or facility
  • Your staffing consultant negotiates assignment details
Step 6: Placement and Housing Details
  • Upon agreement of terms, your staffing consultant will work with you to assure timely completion of hospital/practice credentialing paperwork
  • MDA’s in-house Travel and Housing Department will coordinate all your travel and housing logistics if needed
Step 7: During the Assignment
  • Your consultant will contact you to ensure that the assignment is going smoothly
Step 8: Payment Schedule
  • You will receive calendars to record hours worked while on assignment
  • For fastest payment, record your hours in MDA’s secure portal
  • You may also fax or email your calendar to your staffing consultant and get paid weekly via direct deposit
  • You will receive a 1099 at year end
Step 9: Post-Assignment Evaluations
  • MDA contacts the provider and facility/practice after each assignment to determine both parties’ satisfaction
